Clippings are mulched back into the lawn by default — finely chopped, they feed the soil and you will not see them within a few hours on a regularly mown section. Prefer them collected and taken away? Just say so and we will, at no extra charge.

Less than people assume. Here is the real arithmetic on a standard Tauranga section, with nothing hidden.

Fewer weeks of growth between cuts means a faster visit, clippings fine enough to mulch back in, and no recovery work.

Half the visits, but each one costs about 20% more because there is far more growth to take off and the clippings have to be collected rather than mulched.
And we will say the obvious part too: if you only ever want it tidy occasionally, four one-off mows a year genuinely is the cheapest thing you can do. It is just a different result — the lawn spends most of the year long, and long grass cut hard comes back thin. We would rather you knew that up front than found out in your second summer. Figures are worked examples on a standard section, not a quote.

Your rate never changes — only how often we turn up.
What that means on your invoice
You are billed per visit, so in winter you are simply billed less often. Nobody pays a flat fee for mows that never happened, and nobody pays a surcharge when we step up to weekly through the peak — your per-visit rate does not change.
If you would rather have one predictable figure a month all year, we can average the annual total into twelve equal invoices instead. Plenty of people prefer that for budgeting. Just ask.
You can override it any time
It is your lawn. Want it left longer over summer, skipped while you are away, or kept fortnightly through winter because you like it sharp? Text us. No form, no notice period, no explaining yourself.
The seasonal stepping is a default that saves most people money, not a rule. If yours is a shaded Ōhauiti section or an exposed Pāpāmoa one, we will already be adjusting for that anyway.
Where your number comes from
What moves the price
Five things, in roughly the order they matter. None of them are a mystery and none of them appear after the fact.
How much is actually lawn
Mown area, not section size. Drives, beds, decking and buildings all come off the total — two identical 700m² sections can have wildly different amounts of grass on them.
Access
Straight off the drive, or every load barrowed through a narrow side gate. On tight older sections this changes the job more than the lawn area does.
Edge length
Edging is what takes the time, not mowing. A corner section has far more of it than a mid-block one at exactly the same lawn area.
Slope
Banks need walk-behind or dedicated slope gear and take noticeably longer than flat ground. Common through Welcome Bay and Ōhauiti.
Length at the first visit
A one-off, not an ongoing cost. If the lawn has got away, the reset cut is quoted separately — every visit after it is the normal plan price.
About that first cut
If the lawn has got away, the first visit is not a normal mow and we will not pretend it is. Very long grass cannot be dropped to a tidy height in one pass — it tears, it goes yellow, and it comes back thin. So we take it down in stages, and the clippings have to be collected rather than mulched because there are far too many.
That takes longer, so it is quoted separately from your ongoing rate. You get both numbers before we start: what the reset costs, and what every visit after it costs. The second one is always the smaller one.
Why we do not publish a price list
Because a flat rate only works if you round everyone up to cover the hard jobs. That means the easy sections quietly subsidise the difficult ones, and you have no way of knowing which you are.
We would rather look at your property and give you a number that is actually yours. It is free, it takes ten minutes, and on a standard section we can usually do it from two photos without visiting at all.

The honest verdict
If you enjoy it, keep doing it. A well-kept lawn you mow yourself on a Saturday morning is a genuinely good thing and no contractor is going to beat it on price alone.
Where a plan makes sense is when the mowing has become a chore you keep putting off — because a lawn mown late is worse than one mown by someone else on time, and the catch-up cuts cost more than the routine ones ever would.
It also stacks up if the section is large, steep, or awkward enough that the right gear costs thousands rather than hundreds. That is most of what we do at Ōmokoroa, Te Puna and Te Puke.

FAQs
Plan questions
The things people want settled before they commit to anything.
Am I locked in?
No. There is no minimum term and no cancellation fee on residential plans. You are on a simple service agreement that sets out the schedule and the price, and you can pause, reschedule or stop with reasonable notice. Most people stay because the lawn looks good, not because leaving is difficult. Commercial grounds are written as annual programmes because that is how seasons and budgets work, but there is a straightforward exit there too.
Can I skip a visit or pause over winter?
Yes, and plenty do. Text us — no form, no notice period, no explanation needed. Going away, having people over, or just think it does not need doing this time? Fine. Some people pause entirely from June to August and pick back up in September, and that costs nothing. Bear in mind that a long pause means the first cut back is a bigger job than usual.
How am I billed?
Per visit by default, so in winter you are simply invoiced less often. If you would rather have one predictable figure every month, we can average the annual total into twelve equal invoices instead — a lot of people prefer that for budgeting. Either way, the price you approve is the price on the invoice, and green waste disposal is already included.
What happens if it rains on my day?
We move it. Mowing a saturated lawn tears the grass and leaves ruts, which is worse than leaving it a few days. We push to the next suitable day and let you know, then your schedule picks back up as normal. With the rain we get here it happens from time to time, and you are not charged for a visit that did not happen.
Do I need to be home?
No. As long as we can get to the lawn we will do it and you will come home to a tidy section. Just tell us about locked gates, dogs, or anything you would rather we left alone. We send a photo after each visit so you can see it went ahead even if you were nowhere near the place.
Can I change plans later?
Any time, and it is common. People start fortnightly, find their section grows harder than expected and move to weekly for summer, or go the other way on a shaded property. There is no admin fee and no penalty — your rate simply moves to the new plan’s rate from the next visit.
What if my lawn is badly overgrown right now?
Not a problem, and it is a decent share of our work. That first cut is quoted separately from your ongoing rate, and you get both numbers before we start. From the second visit onward you are on the normal plan price.
Do you actually turn up on the same day each time?
That is the intention and it is what regular customers get — a set day and the same crew. Weather and the occasional big job can shift things by a day, in which case we tell you rather than leaving you wondering. What we will not do is disappear for three weeks without a word, which is the thing everyone has been burned by before.
