Four things come up on almost every job here, and each one has a service built around it.
Salt on the ocean side, shelter on the harbour side. Pilot Bay gardens sit in the lee of Mauao; a couple of blocks away, ocean-facing sections take the onshore wind straight off the beach. The seaward face of a hedge burns first, so we trim it lighter and more often through tree and hedge trimming. Exposed lawns are fed in small doses with weed control and fertilisation rather than one heavy application the sand cannot hold.
Gear that fits the gate. The original beach blocks have narrow side runs and, in summer, nowhere to park a trailer. We bring compact mowers for lawn mowing and edging. Where a section has no vehicle access past the house the cuttings go out by barrow as part of shrubs and rubbish removal.
Old gardens, big boundaries. Mature griselinia and established pōhutukawa are normal on the older streets. Much of our work here is bringing a boundary back off the footpath or lifting branches clear of a roofline. When a tree comes out altogether, the stump follows through stump grinding.
Shops, apartments and body corporates. Shopfronts along Maunganui Road, apartment blocks near the beach and the yards around Totara Street need grounds kept to a schedule, not whenever someone remembers. That is commercial grounds maintenance, with one contact and one monthly invoice.

Mangatawa and Whareroa are on the same run, and the Mount is compact enough that every street on it is covered.
Growth follows the coast, but the calendar here is also shaped by the summer crowds. Both decide when each job is worth booking.
The Mount fills up over the holidays and stays full. Anything needing a trailer or a park on the street is far easier before mid-December. Holiday-home owners who book a pre-Christmas section clean-up in November get a slot; those who ring on the 20th usually do not.
Warm, humid and windy at once. We raise the cutting height for mowing so lawns on sand do not scorch, and keep windward hedge work light while the salt load is at its heaviest.
Growth has eased and the streets are quiet again, so this is when overgrown boundaries get properly reduced. One autumn hedge reduction is worth three summer tidies.
Beds get mulched to hold moisture in the sand, and lawns get their first feed before growth picks up in September. It is our quietest month, so bigger jobs are easiest to book now.

Most of the time. Griselinia, camellia, photinia and pittosporum take a hard cut into old wood and fill back out, usually by the following summer. Conifers such as leylandii and macrocarpa are the exception: once you are into brown wood, nothing regrows. That is why we name the plant first and quote the tree and hedge trimming second.
No. Plenty of older Mount sections have no drive running beside the house, so we barrow waste down the side path to the street. On a mow that barely registers. On a big hedge or shrub clear-out it is real labour, so it is counted in the quote from the start.
Yes, and a good share of our Mount work is exactly that. Arrange access, tell us about gates and dogs, and we send photos after each visit so you can see the place from Auckland or Hamilton. Give us your changeover days and garden maintenance is fitted around bookings, never in the middle of one.
Weekly through the height of summer, fortnightly in spring and autumn, and every three to four weeks over winter. There is no frost on this coast, so growth never fully stops. The chart above sets it out month by month, and your mowing schedule moves with it.
Usually, yes. We use a compact grinder that fits through a standard gate, and take the stump below the surface. The chips are raked out or taken away, whichever suits what you plan to put there next. Stump grinding is priced once we have seen the size of the stump and the way in.
Every load of green waste is taken away as part of the job, coming out to quote costs nothing, and the agreed price is what appears on your invoice. Section size and how easy it is to reach are what shift the figure. The price list shows where each service starts.
