Everything below is available around the basin. Most Welcome Bay households start with a regular mow and add a bank or hedge job when it needs it.
Where Welcome Bay jobs start, service by service. Slope is the variable that surprises people: a steep or terraced section takes longer, and we would rather explain that than quietly pad the number.
The same rates apply in every suburb we cover. On a sloping section it is the time the bank takes that moves the figure, and it is agreed with you before any booking is made.

Very little of it is flat. Sections run up and down the sides of the valley, often with a terrace, a retaining wall and a bank nobody quite knows what to do with. Lawn mowing and edging here is done with walk-behind slope gear. Where the ground eases off on the bigger properties, ride-on mowing takes over.
Working lawns, not showpieces. A trampoline flattening one patch, a dog run along the fence, a cricket pitch by January. Those are permanent features of a family lawn, so weed control and fertilisation here feeds for recovery rather than colour. A thin lawn gets an autumn overseed, not a full renovation that is flattened again by Christmas.
Hedges and trees closing in. Boundary hedges and trees on the back slope are often left alone because they are awkward to reach. Tree and hedge trimming brings them back from above and below, and shrubs and rubbish removal clears the overgrown bank underneath.
Rentals, and the paperwork that goes with them. Around a third of Welcome Bay properties are rented. Our rental and section clean-ups cover a lawn that has slipped between inspections or an end-of-tenancy tidy. Each one comes with dated before-and-after photos and an itemised invoice, because a vague “garden tidy” line helps nobody later.

Other roads on the round include Kaitemako Road, Waitao Road, Osprey Drive, Victory Street, Reid Road, Waikite Road, Waitaha Road and Keihwa Road. Kairua sits past the built-up area but is still on our run, and Welcome Bay and Ōhauiti are worked as one round.
Sheltered in the basin, so it holds moisture longer than the coast — and the school year decides when a family lawn takes its heaviest wear.
The most valuable window on a family lawn. Soil is still warm, rain is reliable and the kids are back at school, so a worn patch gets a chance to knit before summer. A feed and overseed now through weed control and fertilisation does more than anything you can do in spring.
The basin holds moisture and banks get greasy. Most sections drop to monthly mowing, and slope work moves if the ground is too wet to stand on safely. It is a quiet stretch for us too, so a bigger bank clearance is easy to book.
Lawns fire up and so does the traffic across them: longer evenings, trampolines back out, the paddling pool killing a circle by Labour Weekend. It is a good moment to get mulch down on beds and banks before summer dries them out.
Six weeks of school holidays on a lawn already growing hard. This is not the time for renovations, because anything sown gets flattened. Keep it long, keep it fed, and save new lawn work for April when it will actually take.
What people around the basin want to know.
Two good options. Chunky bark or arborist mulch over weed mat holds well on a slope and needs topping up about once a year. Fine grades wash into the gutter, so the material matters. Or low ground-cover planting, which binds the soil and gets cut back annually. Either usually works out cheaper across five years than mowing it every fortnight. If a bank is too steep to mow safely week after week, we will tell you and suggest mulching, bark and weed mat instead.
Improved, yes. Permanently fixed while the trampoline is still there, no, and anyone promising otherwise is selling you something. The biggest single help is keeping the grass a notch longer so there is more leaf taking the wear. Shifting the trampoline a couple of metres each season spreads the damage, and repair seed goes down in autumn, when it actually takes.
Generally the tenant’s, because the Residential Tenancies Act requires the premises to be kept reasonably clean and tidy, and Tenancy Services treats mowing and weeding as part of that. Tenants are only expected to mow and weed unless the agreement says more. Pruning trees or hedges needs the landlord’s written consent, and normal seasonal growth cannot be claimed against a bond. Fortnightly holds most Welcome Bay lawns for most of the year, stepping up to weekly from December to February when growth peaks. What does not work is letting it go a month in summer and then paying for a rescue. An overgrown lawn takes two or three times as long, so the mowing you skipped ends up costing more than it saved.
