Established lifestyle blocks and brand-new subdivisions share one peninsula, and they need almost opposite things.
Big sections that need the right machine. The older half of Ōmokoroa is half-acre sections, lifestyle blocks and boundaries backing onto orchard land. From about a quarter acre up, ride-on mowing is far cheaper per square metre than a walk-behind, because it is time that costs rather than area. Lawn mowing and edging follows behind for the edges and tight corners.
Shelter belts that are doing a job. Mature belts planted decades ago break the wind off the harbour, so they cannot simply be cut flat. Our tree and hedge trimming works out what each belt is made of before anything is cut. The volume a proper reduction produces goes out with shrubs and rubbish removal.
New stages on compacted paddock. That ground was pasture until recently, then carried machinery for a year. Turf laid straight onto it looks fine for a season and struggles by the next summer. Our new lawn install starts by cultivating to depth and bringing in screened topsoil where it is short.
Old orchard ground. Stumps from removed shelter trees and old orchard rows are common on lifestyle blocks; stump grinding takes them down far enough for the ground to be mown or replanted. Long beds and driveway borders then get a bulk load of mulching, bark and weed mat.

Sheltered and set back from the open coast, so the calendar here runs a little differently — and shelter belt work sets the pace.
The most important window on the peninsula. Growth has eased, the ground is firm enough for machinery, and cuts heal before winter. A belt reduction done now holds its shape through to the following summer; leave it to January and you are cutting a plant under stress.
Growth slows more here than on the open coast, so monthly mowing holds most lawns. It is our quietest run too, which makes this the easiest time to get a big job scheduled properly.
Lawn growth, weed germination and hedge regrowth all fire together. On a big section a wet fortnight turns a tidy property into a large job. A weed control and feeding programme and a mowing schedule set before September save a rescue later.
Volcanic ash soils hold moisture better than dune sand, so Ōmokoroa lawns stay green longer through a dry spell. We still lift the cutting height in summer, and on a large lawn that also means fewer visits.

No. Ōmokoroa is in the Western Bay of Plenty District, Kaimai Ward, with its own council and its own rules on trees and vegetation. It is often described as part of greater Tauranga, but administratively it is separate. For you, the main practical difference is where the green waste goes.
Usually, but the species decides it. Pittosporum, photinia and griselinia all reshoot from bare wood, so an overgrown belt can be reduced hard and be dense again within a season or two. Cryptomeria, leylandii and macrocarpa will not — cut past the green outer shell and it stays brown, and on a shelter belt that means losing the shelter. We identify what you have before quoting the tree and hedge trimming, not after cutting.
To the Western Bay of Plenty facilities rather than Tauranga’s — the Ōmokoroa Greenwaste Centre is on the peninsula itself. Everything we cut leaves with us. A shelter belt reduction produces far more volume than people expect, so the disposal is worked into the quote rather than added afterwards.
Every week in high summer, every other week either side, and monthly through the cold months, as charted above. Winter growth drops off more than it does by the sea, so paying for extra cuts in July makes no sense. Your mowing is scaled back to match.
Yes. Common areas, berms and shared accessways in the newer stages are covered, along with the grounds around the township shops. They are kept to a regular timetable through commercial grounds maintenance, with one invoice a month.
Disposal is built into the price, coming out to quote costs nothing, and your invoice carries the number agreed at the start. On a lifestyle block it is lawn area and boundary length that set it. Every service’s starting price sits in the price list.
