Sections are larger here, so the numbers run a little higher than the coast — but they hold, because the work is scoped before it starts.
Per visit, green waste included. Prices exclude GST, with GST added at the standard rate on the invoice. Regular scheduled visits price well below one-off call-outs on a section this size, simply because the garden never reaches rescue condition. On hedge work we quote after seeing it — a twenty-year-old boundary produces far more volume than people expect, and we would rather have that in the number than discover it on the day.

The whole suburb hit maturity together. Most of these homes went up inside one decade, so the planting is all the same age. Griselinia set a metre and a half apart is now a four-metre hedge, and trees put in for shade have closed over a driveway. It is not neglect — it is a well-planned garden reaching full size across an entire suburb at the same time.
A big section needs a plan, not just a visit. There is always more that could be done than fits in one visit, and without an agreed scope you get the front lawn looking sharp while the back third quietly goes backwards. We set out what happens every visit, what is seasonal, and what gets quoted separately. It takes ten minutes at the start and it is why clients here stay for years.
The low ground stays soft through winter. Sections toward the Wairoa River sit on heavy alluvial flats that hold water well into spring. Great through a dry January, awkward in July — a ride-on that runs fine in February will mark that ground. We switch to lighter gear or move the visit rather than leaving ruts. Up in the Heights it drains much faster.

Inland and sheltered, so it runs slightly cooler and wetter than the coast — and the winter ground condition drives a lot of the scheduling.
The most valuable months in Bethlehem. Growth has eased, the ground is still firm enough for machinery and access, and a hedge reduced now holds its shape right through to the following summer. Given how much of the suburb is due a reduction, autumn books out — worth getting in early.

Lawn growth, weed germination and hedge regrowth all start together, and on a large Bethlehem section that adds up fast. This is the point where a garden left over winter turns from a maintenance job into a reset job. Getting the schedule started in September avoids it entirely.
The heavier soils here hold moisture far better than coastal sand, so Bethlehem lawns stay green through a dry spell that browns off Pāpāmoa. Still worth lifting the mowing height — on a big lawn it also means fewer visits over the season.

Yes — Bethlehem Heights, La Cumbre, Sterling Gate, Saint Andrews and Mayfield, along with central Bethlehem, the river flats and across into Judea. Bethlehem covers 1,386 hectares with around 9,250 residents, which makes it physically one of the larger suburbs we work, and we run it as a regular route rather than a series of separate trips.
Usually, and it is the single most common question we get in Bethlehem. It comes down to species. Griselinia, pittosporum, photinia, camellia and buxus all re-shoot from bare wood, so a hedge that has doubled its intended size can be reduced properly and be dense again within a season or two. Conifers — leylandii, macrocarpa, cryptomeria — will not. Cut those past the green outer shell and the brown stays brown permanently. We identify what you have before quoting.
Almost certainly the soil. The low ground toward the Wairoa River is old dairy and orchard country on alluvial flats, and that soil holds water well into winter. A machine that runs over it fine in February will mark it in July. We either switch to lighter equipment or move the visit rather than leaving ruts across a lawn. Properties up in the Heights drain much faster and rarely have the problem.
Very rarely. Most Bethlehem gardens that look overwhelming are actually well-designed gardens that have simply reached full size — the bones are good, there is just too much of everything. Typically it takes one or two reset visits to bring it back to the shape it was meant to be, and then a regular schedule holds it there for a fraction of what the reset cost.
