Shrub & small tree removal

Dug out with the root ball where the plant and the access allow, so nothing reshoots. Where a root ball is too big to lift safely, we cut low and the stump gets ground out separately — and we’ll tell you which it is before we start rather than halfway through.

Overgrown section clearance

Brambles, agapanthus, wandering willie, self-seeded privet and whatever else has taken over the back corner. Cleared back to bare ground so you can actually see what you’re working with and decide what happens next.

Green waste piles you’ve already made

Plenty of people do the cutting themselves and then discover the pile is four trailer loads. We’ll come and take away what’s already there, no cutting required — it’s one of our most common call-outs.

General rubbish & dumped items

Old trampolines, broken outdoor furniture, rusted-out BBQs, fence palings, timber offcuts, the rotten pergola. If it’s sitting on your property and you want it gone, it usually goes.

Sorted for the right disposal stream

Green waste, cleanfill and general rubbish all go to different places and get charged differently. We separate the load rather than tipping everything as general waste, which is both cheaper and the reason your prunings end up as compost.

Raked off and left tidy

The area swept and raked before we go, not just the big stuff picked up. Lawn and paths left the way you’d want them if the house were going on the market next week.

How much does green waste and rubbish removal cost?

It’s priced by how much space the load takes up, plus the labour to get it there. Nobody’s good at estimating volume by eye, so here’s what each size actually looks like on a Tauranga section.

A weekend’s worth of pruning

Roughly what fits in the back of a large ute. One cubic metre sounds abstract until you see it — it’s about the pile from cutting back a couple of shrubs and a hedge face. Honestly, if it’s this size and you own a ute, you may be better off running it in yourself.

The most common job we do

A properly heaped trailer load. This is a decent garden reset — a few shrubs out, beds cleared, a season’s worth of accumulated prunings, or a single-room worth of junk from the garage. Most Tauranga back gardens generate this without trying.

A serious clear-out

Where a garden has been left for a few years, or a hedge line has come out entirely. Bulky green waste takes up far more space than people expect — a single large shrub can be most of a cubic metre once it’s out of the ground and off its own stem.

Whole sections cleared for a sale, a build, a new tenancy or an estate. These are quoted as a job rather than by the load, because it’s the labour and the number of trips that set the price, and both are much easier to judge standing on the property.

What moves the price

Two piles that look the same size can cost quite differently, because volume is only half the story. These are the things we’re weighing up when we quote.

Send a photo with something for scale — a wheelie bin or a person — and we can usually quote without visiting.

Volume of the load How much space it takes up in the trailer. The main driver, and the reason bulky prunings cost more than they look like they should.

How much cutting and digging Taking away a pile you’ve already made is cheap. Removing living shrubs, digging root balls and cutting things down first is labour, and labour is time.

Access from the pile to the trailer Straight onto the drive is quick. A back section reached through a narrow side gate means every armful gets barrowed out, and that can double the labour on the same volume.

Both get the waste off your property. The difference is who does the lifting, and how long something sits on your driveway.

You don’t lift a thing

Our removal service

We turn up, cut and dig what needs it, load everything ourselves and drive it away in the same visit.

Skip bin hire

A bin dropped on your property for a few days, which you fill yourself at your own pace before it gets collected.

  • Sits on site — usually three to five days on the drive
  • Weight limits apply — wet loads and soil trigger excess charges
  • Contamination costs — a green bin with rubbish in it reprices as general waste
  • Good for renovations and staged projects over several days

Genuinely the better option if you’re working through a project slowly and want somewhere to throw things as you go.

How much does rubbish and green waste removal cost?

Most residential jobs in New Zealand start from around $100 + GST, priced on how much space the load takes up plus the labour to load it. A heaped trailer load of green waste starts from $200 + GST; a full section clearance across several loads is quoted as a job. Tip fees are included in our quotes rather than added afterwards.

Do you do the loading, or do I have to?

We do all of it. That’s the whole point of the service — the loading is the part that takes the time and does your back in. You don’t need to pre-pile anything or bag it up either; we’ll work straight off the ground.

Can’t I just take it to the transfer station myself?

For a small load, honestly, yes. Tauranga City Council charges a flat fee for garden waste inside a car, ute or SUV at Te Maunga, which is hard to beat if you’ve got a ute and a free Saturday. Where we make sense is volume and labour: once it’s three or four trips, or something still has to be cut down and dug out first, the maths flips quickly. Note the flat garden waste rate doesn’t apply to trailers.

What can’t you take away?

Hazardous material: asbestos, paint and solvents, garden chemicals, gas bottles, car batteries and medical waste. These legally need a licensed disposal route and no general removal service should be taking them. Tauranga City Council runs a hazardous waste drop-off — we’ll point you at it and take everything else.

Where does the green waste actually go?

To green waste facilities where it’s composted, not to landfill. Garden waste collected in Tauranga is processed into certified organic compost. That’s why we bother sorting loads on site rather than tipping everything as general rubbish — it’s better for disposal costs and considerably better than burying material that will happily break down.

Can you dig the shrubs out, roots and all?

Usually, yes. Most garden shrubs come out with the root ball if there’s room to work around them, and that’s what stops them reshooting. Where a plant is very established, wedged against a foundation, or has a root ball too heavy to lift by hand, we cut it low and grind the stump out instead. We’ll tell you which approach applies when we quote.

Is this cheaper than hiring a skip bin?

Often comparable on price, and quite different on effort. With a skip you’re paying for the bin and doing all the loading yourself over several days, with weight limits and contamination charges to watch. With us the labour is included and it’s gone the same day. If you’re working through a renovation over a week, a skip genuinely suits better — we’ll say so.

Can you take soil, rubble and concrete?

Yes, but it’s priced separately from garden waste. Soil, clay, rocks and broken concrete go to a different facility on a weight-based charge, and they’re deceptively heavy — a small-looking pile can weigh more than a full trailer of prunings. Mention it when you’re getting a quote so it’s costed properly.

Do I need to be home?

Not necessarily, as long as we can get access and it’s completely clear what’s going. For clearance work we’d rather you were there for five minutes at the start — there’s usually at least one thing that looks like junk but isn’t, and it’s much easier to ask than to guess.

How is GST handled on your quotes?

Yes, and tip fees too. Prices are quoted exclusive of GST, with GST added at the standard rate, and every quote is fixed before we start, so the number you approve is the number you pay.
