What you get

What’s included in a treatment

Every visit is priced and explained up front — here’s the standard scope.

Weed identification

Clover, dandelion, catsear, plantain, hydrocotyle and onehunga all respond differently to chemical control. We identify what’s actually there before we spray, not after.

Selective spot & broadcast spraying

A selective herbicide matched to your lawn type kills the weeds without setting back kikuyu, couch or fine turf grasses. Isolated patches are spot treated rather than blanket sprayed where it isn’t needed.

Slow-release fertiliser application

A proprietary slow-release feed applied at the right rate for the season, so nutrients release steadily over weeks rather than one hard growth spurt.

Onehunga timed to the season

Prickle weed germinates in autumn and hardens off into painful seed heads by summer. Treating in winter or early spring, before the prickles form, is the difference between it working and not.

Iron & moss suppression where needed

A sulphate of iron application greens the lawn quickly and helps suppress moss in shaded or damp corners, common on south-facing Tauranga sections.

Pet & family-safe once dry

Products are applied by insured, trained operators and are safe for kids and pets to be back on the lawn once the treatment has dried, usually within a few hours.

Pricing

What changes the price

Weed control and fertiliser treatments start from around $40 + GST for a straightforward fertiliser visit, and go up from there with the size of the lawn and how established the weeds are. These are the things that move the number.

01
Size of the lawnThe main driver of both product cost and time on site.
02
What’s actually growingA light clover patch is a quick spot spray. Established onehunga or mixed broadleaf across the whole lawn takes more product and a follow-up visit.
03
One-off vs a seasonal programmeA single spray knocks back what’s visible now. A spring and autumn programme is what actually keeps weeds from coming back, and costs less per visit.
04
Fertiliser only or weed control tooA straight feed is the cheaper visit. Combining it with a selective spray in the same trip saves a call-out.
05
Lawn conditionCompacted, patchy or moss-affected lawns sometimes need dethatching or lime first, which we’ll flag rather than charge for later.
Simple process

A programme built around the Bay of Plenty seasons

One spray rarely fixes a weedy lawn for good. This is the rhythm that actually works here.

1

Spring feed & pre-emergent

A slow-release feed as growth ramps up, plus early control before summer weeds germinate.

2

Summer spot treatment

Targeted spot spraying of anything that’s pushed through, with iron for colour through the heat.

3

Autumn weed & feed

The key window for onehunga control, paired with an autumn feed to carry the lawn into winter.

4

Winter check-in

Moss and shaded, damp corners checked, with lime if the soil’s running acidic and inviting weeds back in.

Why Lawnify

Treatments matched to local grass, not a generic spray

A weed and feed bought off a hardware shelf is built for ryegrass down south. That’s not what most Tauranga lawns are made of.

We know the grass here

Kikuyu and couch tolerate different actives to fine fescue or ryegrass. Using the wrong product can yellow or set back the lawn instead of just clearing the weeds.

Timing that actually matters

Onehunga is only easy to control before the prickles form. Spray after summer and you’re just walking on the results. We work to the calendar, not a one-size call-out.

A local, not a call centre

Ring the number and you get someone in Tauranga who can talk about your actual lawn, not a scripted booking line reading from a script written for somewhere else.

FAQs

Weed control & fertilising questions, answered

The things Tauranga homeowners ask us most before booking a treatment.

Will the spray harm my kikuyu or couch lawn?

No. We use selective herbicides chosen for your specific grass type. They’re formulated to control broadleaf weeds like clover, dandelion and onehunga without setting back kikuyu, couch or fine turf. The wrong hardware-store product can yellow a kikuyu lawn, which is exactly what we’re avoiding.

Is it safe for kids and pets?

Yes, once the treatment has dried on the leaf, which is usually a few hours depending on the weather. We’ll let you know on the day roughly how long to keep everyone off the lawn.

How quickly will I see results?

Fertiliser green-up is usually visible within a week or two. Weeds take longer to die back and disappear, typically two to four weeks, since the herbicide works through the plant rather than burning it off instantly. Onehunga control is about preventing next season’s prickles rather than an overnight fix.

Do I need an ongoing programme or is one visit enough?

A single visit clears what’s there now, but new weed seed blows in constantly and a lawn that isn’t regularly fed will always be easier for weeds to invade. A spring and autumn programme is what actually keeps a lawn clear year to year. Plenty of clients start with a one-off and move to seasonal once they see the difference.

What’s the best time of year to treat onehunga (prickle weed)?

Winter to early spring, before the plant hardens off and produces its prickles. It germinates in autumn and is easy to control while it’s still soft and small. Spray it in summer once the prickles are already there and you’re treating for next year, not fixing the current problem.

My lawn is thin and pale, not weedy. Can you still help?

Yes. A slow-release fertiliser application on its own thickens and greens a lawn, and a thicker lawn is also the best long-term defence against weeds moving in. If the lawn is compacted or thatchy underneath, we’ll flag whether dethatching first would help the feed do its job.

How is GST handled on your quotes?

Prices are quoted exclusive of GST, with GST added at the standard rate on your invoice. You’ll always see the full breakdown before anything is booked, and nothing outside the agreed treatment gets added afterwards.
