Weeding, pruning, hedge tidying and bed care on a schedule that keeps ahead of the Bay’s growing season — instead of one panicked blitz a year. Green waste leaves with us. GST-inclusive quotes, no lock-in.
Tell us about the garden and we’ll price a visit.
A standard maintenance visit covers the whole garden, not just whatever looks worst on the day. Bigger seasonal visits add mulching, feeding and soil work.
Get my free quoteHand weeding and hoeing through planted areas, along fence lines and around edges. In the Bay’s warm, wet climate weeds establish faster than almost anywhere in the country, so this is the task that actually decides how a garden looks.
Deadheading, cutting back leggy growth and shaping shrubs to keep them dense rather than woody. We never take more than about a third off a plant in one session — more than that stresses it and you lose the following season’s growth.
Keeping hedges square and off the paths between full trims. Anything needing a proper reduction or a big reshape moves onto our hedge trimming service, and we’ll flag it rather than hack at it during a maintenance visit.
Bed edges cut back to a clean line, ground cover kept out of paths and lawns, and mulch levelled where it has thinned or washed. Sharp edges do more for how a garden reads than almost anything else.
Beds, paths and drives cleared of leaf fall and prunings. Left sitting on beds through a wet Tauranga winter, leaf litter mats down and holds moisture against crowns, which is where a lot of plant rot starts.
Everything we cut leaves on the trailer. No bags stacked by the gate, no filling your council bin for the next three weeks, no trip to the transfer station.
Tauranga’s subtropical climate means growth barely stops. We shift the scope of your visits with the season instead of doing the same job twelve times a year.
The foundation season. Everything wakes up at once and weeds move faster than the plants do. This is when a garden either gets ahead for the year, or spends the rest of it catching up.
The job shifts from encouraging growth to managing it, and from feeding to keeping water in the soil. Beds dry out fast on the coast, and anything left unmulched suffers first.
The soil is still warm, the air has cooled, and there is enough of the year left for plants to settle before winter. Autumn is the main window for shaping, cutting back and planting.
Visits ease back but they don’t stop. Winter is when the bones of a garden get sorted — the dormant pruning, the drainage problems, the soil work — while there is no growth in the way.
Drag the slider across to see a Tauranga garden before a reset visit, and after the beds, borders and edges were brought back.
Garden maintenance in New Zealand is generally charged by the hour, and rates sit somewhere between $40 and $90 depending on the work and who’s doing it. These are the bands most Tauranga jobs fall into.
Indicative only — every garden prices differently. We quote per property, GST inclusive, before anything starts.
Get an exact numberAnyone can pull weeds. The difference shows up a season later, in what survived the pruning and what didn’t.
No more than about a third off in a session, cuts made cleanly with sharp tools, and nothing heavy done in wet weather when disease spreads easily. A hard cut in the wrong month costs you a whole season of flowering.
More often through spring and summer when growth is running, eased back over winter. You’re not paying for a visit the garden didn’t need, and you’re not waiting a month while it gets away.
Plants going backwards, drainage that isn’t coping, a hedge that needs a proper reduction rather than another tidy. You hear about it while it’s still cheap to fix, not once it’s a replacement job.
From the foot of Mauao right through to Te Puke and Ōmokoroa. If your suburb is not listed it is still worth asking — our coverage across the Bay keeps growing.

Get my free quote 0800 632 723Fortnightly through spring and summer is the sweet spot for most Tauranga gardens, easing to monthly over the cooler months. Growth barely stops here, so a garden left for six or eight weeks in November is a much bigger job than two visits would have been. If the budget only stretches to a few visits a year, autumn is the one to prioritise.
Weeding through beds and borders, pruning and deadheading, hedge tidying, cutting bed edges back to a clean line, clearing leaf litter and debris, and taking all the green waste away. Bigger seasonal visits add mulching, feeding and soil work. If there’s something specific you want prioritised, just tell us and we’ll build the visit around it.
With a one-off reset, priced separately from ongoing maintenance. That first visit takes considerably longer and produces a lot of green waste, and we’ll tell you the number before we start. After that a regular schedule keeps it there for a fraction of the cost — the reset is the expensive part, not the upkeep.
Yes, included as standard. Everything we cut leaves on the trailer. On a very large clean-up where the volume is exceptional we’ll mention any additional disposal cost in the quote up front, never afterwards.
Light tidying, yes — keeping it square and off the paths between proper trims. A full reduction or reshape is a different job with different gear and a lot more waste, so that goes on our tree and hedge trimming service and gets quoted separately. We’d rather do it properly than half-do it during a maintenance slot.
Autumn for most shaping and cutting back, once growth has slowed but before winter properly sets in. Winter suits dormant pruning on deciduous trees and roses. Spring should be light touch-ups only, because sap is rising and a hard cut then stresses the plant. And regardless of season, we avoid pruning in wet weather since that’s how disease travels between plants.
Not at all, as long as we can get to the garden. Just let us know about locked gates or dogs. For the first visit it does help if you can be there for ten minutes to walk us round and point out what matters to you — what’s a weed and what’s a plant you’re growing on purpose isn’t always obvious.
Yes. Every quote is GST inclusive, so the number you approve is the number you pay.
