Left longer through the dry months so the roots stay shaded, taken down as growth eases. Scalping a lawn in January is how you get a brown one in February.

Almost nobody leaves a mowing round because the cut was bad. They leave because the mower stopped turning up, or the invoice kept moving. Both are fixable and both are on us.
The same crew, not whoever is free
They already know your gate latch, which strip the dog uses and where the sprinkler head hides. That knowledge is worth more than it sounds.
The price stays the price
Agreed per visit up front. It does not creep up because the grass was long that week or because it is January.
Skipping a week is fine
Away, or the lawn has barely moved? Say so and it comes off that week’s run. There is no contract to escape and no charge for a mow we did not do.

What Bay of Plenty conditions do to a mowing round
A fixed fortnightly schedule works in a cooler climate. Here it either falls behind in November or wastes your money in July.
Lawns here grow hard
The warm, humid climate suits the vigorous creeping lawn types, and they put on serious growth through summer. They want a firmer, more frequent cut than a cool-climate lawn.
A season that runs long
Roughly Labour Weekend to April is the push. Winter growth almost stops, which is when the round stretches out instead of billing you for a mow the lawn did not need.
Coast and inland cut differently
Sections on the coastal sand dry out quickly, so the blade stays higher around Papamoa and the Mount. The heavier orchard ground inland grows harder and brings the mower back sooner.
Thatch builds up quietly
Damp air means the dead layer under the grass thickens faster here. We flag it when it starts mattering rather than letting it choke the lawn, and dethatching is a separate job when it does.

How much does lawn mowing cost in the Bay of Plenty?
It starts at $35 per visit. Where yours sits depends on the area of grass, how often we come, how much edging there is and whether the mower can get through the gate without a wrestle.
How often should a lawn here be mown?
Weekly from about Labour Weekend to March, fortnightly either side of that, and stretched out over winter. Fixed all-year fortnightly is the usual mistake — it falls behind in the push and wastes money in July.
Weekly or fortnightly: which works out cheaper?
Weekly is cheaper per visit because the grass never gets heavy, though you have more visits. Fortnightly costs more each time in the growing months because there is twice the growth to get through.
Do you take the clippings away?
Usually they mulch back in, which feeds the lawn and is better for it. When growth is heavy enough that clumps would sit on the surface and smother the grass, they come away with us instead.
What if the lawn is far too long to start with?
It gets brought down over two cuts rather than one. Taking a badly overgrown lawn straight to normal height in one pass leaves yellow stalk that takes weeks to green up.
Can I skip a week or pause over winter?
Any time, and there is nothing to pay for a visit that does not happen. No lock-in contract, so pausing over winter or while you are away is just a message.
Do I need to be home?
No, as long as the crew can get in. Tell us about the gate latch, the dog and where the bins live once and it stays on the round notes. A photo goes out after each visit either way.
Will it be the same crew every time?
Yes, and that is most of the value. A crew that already knows your sprinkler head and the strip the dog has flattened works faster and cuts better than someone reading an address off a screen.
Do you edge every visit or only sometimes?
Every visit. Edging is what makes the difference between a cut lawn and a finished one, and doing it every third time is obvious from the street.
Which towns do you mow in?
Across the harbour side: Otumoetai, Matua, Bethlehem and Tauranga itself. Out towards the beaches: Mount Maunganui, Papamoa, Welcome Bay, Ohauiti. Inland there is Tauriko and Pyes Pa, and west of the harbour Omokoroa, Te Puna and Te Puke. Somewhere else? Worth an ask.
